About PRE
Editorial Standards
PRE's editorial standards are designed to ensure complete accuracy, neutrality, and utility. We do not publish opinion pieces, marketing copy, or speculative articles. Every entry is treated as a factual reference document.
Who Writes PRE?
Entries are authored by credentialed roofing professionals, structural engineers, and building science experts. Before an entry is published, it must pass a rigorous technical review by an independent expert in the field.
Review Cycles
Knowledge decays. PRE entries are not published and forgotten. Every entry is assigned a review cycle based on its content type:
- Cost & Pricing Data: Reviewed every 3 to 6 months.
- Specific Products: Reviewed every 6 to 12 months.
- Building Codes: Flagged immediately upon external code changes.
- Evergreen Definitions: Reviewed every 12 to 24 months.
Claim Classes
We classify the evidence supporting our entries into five distinct categories, visible to readers via inline markers:
- Fact: Directly supported by primary or authoritative documentation (e.g., building codes).
- Industry Guidance: Standard professional recommendations (e.g., NRCA guidelines).
- Manufacturer Claim: Specifications or warranties published by the product manufacturer.
- Field Observation: Insights based on documented inspections or project data.
- Interpretation: Expert synthesis of available evidence.
